9 Best Practices for Remotely Managing Your Colo Infrastructure

1. Track and manage port capacity
As colocation environments grow increasingly dense and complex, you need to accurately inventory and track individual physical port types residing on every device to make the most informed decisions to improve planning for new equipment and services and aid in maintaining and troubleshooting colocation infrastructure.

“A lot of times I’m in a meeting and there’s a project coming up and we’re going to deploy some new equipment and we want to know what we have for connectivity,” said Tom Wysocki, Data Center Manager, KPMG. “What I’m able to do is bring up a visual of that switch and very quickly I can highlight what’s connected and what’s not connected. So if we’re in a project and I know there’s going to be ten servers and I’m going to need two connections per server, I can see I’ve got plenty of ports available and even assign those out now to the network team or the project leader and say, ‘These are the ports we’ll be utilizing,’ so they can go ahead and start getting them configured. We can start pre-cabling ahead of time and labeling and really move ahead on that project.

Data Center Management Trends

December 10, 2020

In 2020, data center professionals saw significant industry shifts and advancements in data center management tools that reshaped how modern data centers are managed. The COVID-19 pandemic ushered in a new normal requiring remote data center monitoring and management, which was already becoming a priority due to increases in edge, retail, colocation, and remote deployments.

Cyber Security Risk Assessment

Are you confident your cyber security processes are adequate?

Here is what you need to know about the NIST’s Cybersecurity Framework. The tech world has a problem: security fragmentation. There is no standard set of rules–or even language–used to address the growing threats of hackers, ransomware, and stolen data, and the threat only continues to grow.

Digital Twins for Data Centres

What are Digital Twins?

A digital twin is a virtual model of a process, product, or service. This pairing of the virtual and physical worlds allows analysis of data and monitoring of systems to head off problems before they even occur, prevent downtime, develop new opportunities and even plan by using simulations.

Harness the Power of Your Data Center Data

In today’s ever-changing data center environment, insights from data provide a critical competitive advantage. But with the massive volume and variety of data generated by your data center devices, who has the time or training to collect that data, analyze it, gain insights from it, and ultimately derive value from it?

Data Center Relocation Risk Assessment

Data Center Relocation Risk Assessment Process Summary

Due to the high stakes involved in a move out of a Data Center (DC) to a new location, a Risk Assessment is highly recommended prior to the move being initiated. The Data Center Relocation “Risk Assessment” Process identifies what can go wrong and the steps identified to mitigate the potential issues.
